Me getting a bicycle has meant weird escapades between classes and the liberating feeling of exploring. I finally had the courage to take my bike to the city! On Friday I had to be in school extra early so I took the opportunity to get to town early in the morning, hop on my bike, and explore the Copenhagen Harbor. What I like the most about the bicycle is how dynamic it lends itself for my experience of the city. I would ride fast on the bike lanes next to big boulevards, catching the wind gusting by and watching out for other cyclists coming from behind me and stopping in front. In the center I would ride slow, looking up at the early morning details: the light shines lightly from the cracks between buildings, the bakery smells permeate multiple blocks, shop managers get their merchandise ready outside their stores... By the harbor I would ride pleasantly, taking in the water and the foggy landscape.
The places next to the harbor have become spaces where public life and social activity can happen. Even early in the morning during the winter time there is people courageously doing their morning run, or walking their dog right next to the water. It is very evident that the harbor is a place where people will come once the weather gets nicer. Today, however, early in the morning on February, I had the whole harbor to myself. I rode right up to the playful docks that identify life in the harbor. They curve up and down They go into the water and come back again. One of them had cool playground structures like the ones you see in the pics below. It was a lot of fun. I am excited to see the difference between now and spring time. Meanwhile, I'm taking my bike to all places and enjoying every second of it!
